Freddie Keron made his second appearance in Inshowen in as many weeks for the Buncrana 5k. After his fast time in Culdaff, another good time was on the cards in Buncrana. With over 350 runners in attendance, a good night of racing was in store. With some elite athletes from clubs all over the northwest in attendance, there was a sense the Kenyan would not have an easy race ahead.

With runners from Derry and Donegal taking part, it was a fun filled experience for all competitiors on a hot Sunday morning. The humid conditions made it difficult for the athletes, but they showed determination and all finished the run. Inishowen AC are calling all ladies of Inishowen to get on the road for the next female only 5k run, which takes place on Sunday, 17th June in Carndonagh - 11am start. Women of all abilites are invited to try the 5k distance in a non-competitive environment.

Inishowen AC hosted the annual Culdaff 5k road race on Friday, 18th May. The race was number four in the Donegal Grand Prix calendar. Star performer on the night was a visiting athlete from Kenya - Freddie Keron Sittuk - who finished 5th in the recent Belfast Marathon. Despite a strong headwind, the Kenyan showed his class from the gun, with only Cathal McLaughlin from Foyle Valley prepared to follow. By the 3k mark, Freddie was out in front and pushing for the finish line with the intention of setting a new course record. He did just that in a time of 15.09, followed by Cathal McLaughlin in 16.38. First of the Inishowen AC finishers was local athlete Martin Mooney, finishing 5th in 17.51, followed by Declan Donaghey, 7th in 18.00. Ever-improving club member, Sheila Doherty won her first Donegal Gran Prix race in a time of 22.09, with Patrica Doherty second in 22.46. Other prize winners were:

Humphrey Murphy M45 Letterkenny AC 17.48
Peter Lilburn M50 City of Derry 19.20
Michael Collins M40 Inishowen AC 19.33
Patrica McLaughlin F35 Inishowen AC 22.46
Anne McElhinney F50 Inishowen AC 27.19

Many thanks to all who helped make the Culdaff 5k a success. Next on the fixture list is the hugely popular Buncrana 5k – Wednesday, 30th May, 7.30pm start.
