Inishowen Ladies Novice team produced a magnificent performance to win team Gold at this year's Donegal Novice Championship held in in Killybegs on Sunday, 14th October. With strong teams from Finn Valley, Lifford and Rosses in contention for the gold medal, the Inishowen ladies all put in superb performances to secure top spot.

First home for Inishowen was Evelyn McGinley who ran a superb tactical race, finishing in third position to win individual Bronze. Sheila Doherty was next home in 6th place, with Elizabeth McDaid close behind in 7th. The medal was within their grasp; the Inishowen support pushing the rest of the team home. Ruth Doherty was next in 13th, Brid Collins 14th and Joanne McColgan in 29th place. it was an anxious wait for the results to be counted. But it was all yellow when the result was announced - Inishowen AC were Gold medal winners for the very first time! 

Novice Men XC 2012

Next up was the men's 6k race. There was a field of 50 runners from teams such as Finn Valley and Tir Chonaill. It was going to be a tough race for the Inishowen men. The first seven athletes home were from Finn Valley and Tir Chonaill, but it was Martin Mooney who pushed himself in among them to finish in a commendable 8th place, with the rest of the team battling to stay in contention. Next to finish with a strong run was Ronan Whoriskey in 24th place. Other finishers on the day were Vinny Hegarty 30th, Finbarr Gallagher 32nd, Sean McDaid 34th, Michael Collins 36th, Francis Doherty 43rd and Oweny McKinney 45th, giving Inishowen 5th place overall.
