RESULTS - International, NI & Ulster Senior XC Championships

The International Cross Country Championships in conjunction with the NI & Ulster Senior Cross Country Championships took place in Greenmount, Antrim on Saturday, 21st January.

The Men's 10.8K event contained the best in-depth line you are likely to see anywhere this year. It was great to see 10 Inishowen athletes going to the line and competing in a race of this quality. The course was very tough and the race was run at a relentless pace. 1st home was Mike Kigen (Keyna). Joe Mc Allister (St. Malachy's AC) was the first Ulsterman home.

Joe Mc Kinney led home the Inishowen men and finished 60th overall. Niall Mc Gee was next home, followed by Malcolm Mc Gee, Jim Harkin, Declan Caldwell, Finbarr Gallagher, Pat Gallagher, Paddy Doherty, Dwain Robb, and Owenie Mc Kinney. It was a memorable day in Greenmount and a chance to run with some top class Irish and International runners.

Letterkenny AC man Pauric Mc Kinney ran a superb race and finished 35th overall. Well done also to Paddy Mór Doherty, 45th overall. Donegal was well represented by Letterkenny AC and Inishowen AC.

In the ladies race, Ireland's Fionnuala Britton battled it out with Gemma Steel (GBR). Britton opened up a gap on the final lap and raced home to claim the title, both women proving too strong for the African opposition.

Cathy Mc Court, who was 1st home in Monaghan two weeks ago was 18th overall and Fionnuala Diver (Letterkenny AC) was 22nd. Catherine Lilburn was first home for City of Derry, 26th overall.
