Saturday, 31st March - Omagh Half Marathon - Results & Report

Omagh Half Marathon 2012Inishowen AC were in Omagh on Saturday, 31st March to compete in the annual Omagh Half Marathon. A strong team of twenty-nine Inishowen AC runners, the biggest club participation on the day, made the journey to mid-Ulster. It was encouraging to see so many from the Fit4Life programme competing, some of whom were racing over the distance for the first time. Overall, 1500 runners took part in the race and it was a visiting athlete from Dublin, former National Marathon champion Sergiu Ciobanu, who destroyed the elite field in a time of 64.08, which was a near four minutes ahead of second place finisher, Stephen Duncan of Omagh Harriers.

Finnbar Gallagher was the in-form Inishowen athlete on the day with a 1.23.41, followed by Buncrana athlete, Christian Mc Ginley who finished strongly in a time of 1.24.35. Helena Crossan continued her good form with a 1.26 finish to get on the podium as winner of the Masters Ladies race. She was also third female finisher overall.

Next on the fixture list is the Ballyliffen 10 Mile Coastal Challenge on Saturday, 7th April with a 2pm start, followed by the National 10k Championships on Sunday, 15th April in Phoenix Park, Dublin.
