Great Ireland Run 2012

Fifteen Inishowen AC athletes made the journey to Phoenix Park, Dublin for the annual Great Ireland Run, which doubled as the National 10K Championship. Over 11,000 athletes were at the start line, including some of the world's best such as current Olympic 5,000m and 10,000m champion, Kenisa Bekele, taking part in his first Irish event in 10 years...he didn't dissapoint, with a superb display of running to destroy the field in a new course record time, which is also the fastest 10k time on the road worldwide this year - 27.49. The inishowen squad were delighted to be involved in the same event as the great man.

Some fantastic results were also achieved by the Inishowen athletes, who were battling for team medals. Carndonagh athlete, Jim Harkin was the front-runner of the Inishowen team with a 37.01 finish. Helena Crossan was again first of the ladies over the line with a 39.05 finish, which gave her a 26th place finish in the Over-40s.
