Saturday, 8th June - Buncrana 10k Road Race - Report

Inishowen AC was out in numbers for the annual Buncrana 10k road race on Saturday, 8th June. With scorching early evening heat and 170 athletes on the line, conditions were difficult from the start. It was Foyle Valley athlete, Keith Shields who was the runaway winner in a time of 33.01 in what was his second race of the day, having run a 5 mile road race in Omagh earlier in the day. Best of the Inishowen AC runners was the ever improving Dunree athlete, Benny Mc Daid who finished in 5th place overall. Benny was the first local athlete over the line in a time of 35.57.

Kim McLaughlin continues to improve as the road seasons goes on. Kim was the best of the Inishowen female athletes, winning in a convincing time of 40.44, followed home by Theresa Doherty in 41.53, making it a 1-2 for Inishowen AC.

In the Categories, Inishowen AC athletes took the top two positions in the M35 ladies section, with Sharon McDaid winning in 44.50 followed by Ruth Doherty in 48.46. In the female M40 section, Inishowen athlete Patricia Mc Laughlin was the winner in 48.37, with another Inishowen AC athlete, Breedge Collins take the runner-up prize in 48.50.

Next up for Inishowen AC is the Dunree 5k on Wednesday, 19th June at 7.30pm.
