Monday, 5th August - McKinney Rewrites Club Records at National Half

National Half Marathon 2013

Pauric Mc Kinney successfully defended his National Half Marathon title on Monday, 5th August at the National Championships in Dublin. Over 7000 athletes took to the street of Dublin for the race, which incorporated the inaugural Rock N Roll Half Marathon. Inishowen had 30 athletes at the event - the largest number from any one club. When the gun went for the 8.30am start, there was an electric atmosphere with 7000 athletes making their way down O’Connell Street. And with live bands at every mile it was an event that should attract larger crowds in future.

The Inishowen AC athletes had to keep their minds focused on the race as they were in a battle for National medals, both individually and as a club team, in both the Male and Female sections. Once the race progressed out to the Phoenix Park, gaps in the large field started to appear, making it easier to increase the pace of the race. By this stage, McKinney was in his stride and was increasing the gag to his nearest competitor. With the last three miles taking the athletes back to a city centre finish, the crowds were appearing on the street to cheer athletes over the line. With another National Title for the taking, McKinney crossed the finish line to great applause to retain his Masters title in a superb time of 72.38. In doing so, Pauraic also set a new club record for the distance. With McKinney already cooling down, the rest of the team were still battling for places. Next over the line was Shane Doherty in a fantastic time of 1.21.57, followed closely by Martin Mooney in 1.21.59.

The rest of the Inishowen AC finishers were:
Jim Harkin 1.22.10
Niall Mc Gee 1.22.45
Pat Gallagher 1.25.50
Gerard Doherty 1.25.57
Shaun Mc Daid 1.26.58
Finbarr Gallagher 1.32.00
Shaun Moore Doherty 1.34.00
Elizabeth Mc Daid 1.38.00
Trina Mhic O Dhonaill 1.42.24
Henrietta Elves 1.45.00
Seamus Mc Daid 1.49.30
Ruth Doherty 1.50.00
Joan Mc Colgan 1.55.00
Majella Mc Laughlin 1.56.00
Patrica Mullen 1.58.00
Damien Downey 1.59.19
Grainne Gillen 2.13.00
Donna Doherty 2.16.37
John Mc Candless 2.39.00

Well done to all athletes involved on what at times was a difficult course. The "yellas" made it another memorable day for the Club!
